Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Statement of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Webster Groves welcomes and supports the unique and individual qualities of each resident, business owner, employee, and visitor to our community. We are committed to promoting diversity, respectful conduct, and equitable service; we strive to be an inclusive place for all, and we condemn discrimination. In all that we do as a City, we pledge to treat everyone with equity and without bias, regardless of their race, creed, religion, language, national origin, gender identity, marital status, familial status, citizenship, sexual orientation, age, income, physical appearance, or ability.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Audit

Hicks-Carter-Hicks, a consulting firm specializing in organizational development from a diversity, equity, and inclusion perspective, conducted a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion audit for the City.

The assessment took place in 2021 and involved three parts: Employee and community focus groups, city employee interviews and a community survey. More than 30 employees were involved in the focus groups and interviews and more than 600 community members provided input via the survey and community focus groups.

Recommendations of the audit include: 

  • Develop a DEI strategy and plan to leverage strengths and address barriers 
  • Establish a DEI Council consisting of City employees and community members 
  • Foster inclusivity and equity in recruitment, hiring and retention practices 
  • Hold regular listening/discussion sessions internally and externally to focus on the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
